Welcome to the Reynolds DNA-Genealogy Project. It was established in January 2003 to utilize a new genetic science designed to be used in conjunction with historical research. DNA testing is a tool to identify Reynolds families, many separated by the negative effects of time; therefore DNA testing is helpful in guiding classical genealogical research. When family profiles do not match, obviously an imagined relationship may be incorrect. The Reynolds Project has been very successful in identifying, reaffirming and confirming Reynolds family lines.
The Y-chromosome (yDNA), passed from generation to generation, is unchanged for the father, son, brother and male cousins, but it cannot distinguish between them. Because females do not maintain common surnames for each generation, they are not as easily traced as males. Females (mtDNA) do, however, yield more specific information about ancestral migratory patterns.
