9 Dec 1910--PAGE-DOUGHERTY--Mr. Riley Page and N4iss Mattie Dougherty both of near Burton, were married on Nov 30, 1910, at the residence of the
officiating minister, Rev. Notley Magruder, while seated in their buggy. The
bride is a most winsome and charming young lady and is the eldest daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Dougherty. The groom is the son of Mrs. Malinda Page, and is a most worthy young man. After the ceremony the happy pair returned to the home of the bride's parents where an elegant wedding supper was served, the guests being none but immediate relatives.
On the following night a charivari party, composed of the young couple's intimate friends, paid their respects, the din of pans, bells, shouts and shots being kept up exactly an hour and a half The captain of the
boisterous band was then called to the door and asked by W. Page how much the crowd demanded, and being informed handed it over forthwith.
The charivari party then retired to their roaring campfire to determine what to do with the money. Some one suggested that they add to it and buy the
newlyweds an appropriate gift, which was done. they were also the recipients of many other remembrances from relatives and friends.
AU join the writer in wishing them a long and happy wedded life and that their
path may be one of sunshine and roses. A FRIEND. 0292

John Riley PAGE, son of John Truman PAGE and Malinda Jane Joanna REYNOLDS. John and Malinda PAGE were divorced about 1900. He is son of John W. PAGE and SusanNAYLOR. -
If anyone has more info on John and Mattie, would be most interested. Thanks

15 The youngest by seven years in a family of seven children, "Mrs. O" grew up in the Ojai Valley in Southern California. She attended Mills College, later U.C. Berkeley, and met her husband-to-be there, They were married during World War I. Her interests and accomplishments were numerous and varied: she taught school and coached tennis at Hamlin's, a private high school in S.F....She learned the craft of enamelling, and demonstrated the art at the S.F. World Fair in 1939....During World War II she served as an executive with S.F. Red Cross.

However, her most enduring achievements were in the conservation movement, well before this became a fashionable cause. She was president and founder of Calif. Roadside Council, an organization devoted to beautifying highways, and spent years travelling to Sacramento to oppose billboard lobbyists. Winner of numerous awards for conservation work, she was appointed by Lady Bird Johnson to a national conservation meeting in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Mrs. O wrote extensively on a variety of topics for newpapers and magazines. Her strong sense for family history produced "Gold, Rawhide and Iron," a biography of her grandfather. She also obtained and wrote an oral history of her mother's childhood memories ("Pioneer Child"), and wrote "Family Album," a recollection of her own childhood.

20 According to step-son, Walter Scott Reynolds, Elizabeth was alive, and living with Joseph and Nathaniel, Jr. in Abingdon, IL when she was 92 years old. However, if her birthdate of 1770 is accurate, she would have been only 89 when the family left IL for KS. Elizabeth Ann Bowyer

21 McElwain Cemetery Index indicates her name as "Alice" Velma Reynolds. w/o I.E., "Remembered"

22 Initially a patient of Dr. Joseph Reynolds (measles), she married him in 1850, when she was 19, he 44. This took place in Hardin Co., KY. By the time the family returned to IL in 1855 she had produced three children.
Following Joseph's death in 1866 she and the six children living with her moved from Emporia, KS to Valley Falls, KS, about 20 miles SW of Atchison.
In 1870 she married Elijah Harding, age 53 (she was 39). They promptly moved to Osawkie, Jefferson Co., KS, about 10 miles further south. Probably this was to Elijah's home. The couple had three more children.
According to letter by her son, Walter, Lydia was born in Grayson Co., KY. She had one sister and one brother. Both parents died when the children were very young, and the children were permanently separated.

24 There is a rumored kinship between Phebe and Elizabeth Bush, influential step-mother to Abraham Lincoln. In addition to the same surname, both lived in the same county at the same time. However, a definite relationship hasn't been established.
Phebe died in late 1844 or early 1845. Some accounts say this occurred in IL, while others say she died after the family's return to KY.

The cemetery is about 1/4 mile south of Stella Road (OKC SE 149th St.) on the east side of the street. I have listed the graves by section and row with plots proceeding from north to south. Examples: N-R5-4 would be the fourth grave in from the north end of row 5 in the north section. NW-R1-3 would be the third grave in from the first row of the northwest corner (fenced area).

According to Ruby, Mandy would raise her if her father, George Deardorff, promised not to take her away. Grandpa George kept his promise. Ruby rarely got to see her father or her sister, Mary, while growing up. George lived out west of Shawnee, Oklahoma and they seldom traveled very far in a wagon."

Note # 2
Friday, 18 July 1924, Vol 38 No. 13--Pitney Golden Wedding--Golden wedding
celebrations are of rare occurrence, but we enjoyed one in this vicinity on Sunday, the 6th inst., when the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Pitney was celebrated at their home southwest of Higbee.
Mr. Pitney had announced the event in The NEWS a week or two before hand,
inviting all neighbors and friends. Everyone felt sure the occasion would be a notable
one, and such it certainly proved to be. Probably nothing just like it in nature, uniqueness and magnitude was ever witnessed in this community. The number of persons in attendance was something over 300, and some of these came from other states as far away as Illinois, Oklahoma and Texas.
The affair was marked by several unique features, the most notable being the
re-marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Pitney by their son, the Rev. W. C. Pitney, who is a Baptist minister of the Gospel. Rev. Pitney also preached an excellent sermon at 11 o'clock thus emphasizing in the minds of all that the occasion and the day were sacred and should be regarded with reverence. At the close of the sermon a sumptuous dinner was served on the lawn to all who would partake and, of course, no one refused.
Mr. and Mrs. Pitney were the recipients of several nice presents and immediately
after dinner the names of the donors were announced and the presents delivered. The list follows: To Mr. and Mrs. Pitney, each a splendid gold watch by the children; to both jointly, $15, Frank Pitney; $5, L. C. Reed; $5, Mrs. O. S. Hull; $5, Mrs. Chas. Binney; $2, Mrs. S. W. Pitney. There were also a number of smaller gifts.
Many who had not seen each other for years were thus reunited, and the afternoon
was spent in handshaking and in social conversation. All together the day was one never to be forgotten. A good many failed to register and so their names can not be given. But the following is a list of those who registered, so far as we were able to read the names: Dr. G. M. Nichols and wife, Frank Hairl, H. S. Starkey, Victor Griffin, Mrs. Sadie Truby, Mrs. A. D. Dougherty, Mrs. Asa W. Morton, Jerry Golden and wife, Mrs. S. L. Fisher, Mrs. W. A. Hitt, Ed Griffin and wife, Mrs. Mattie Griffin. Mrs. Eddie Dennis, Mrs. N. J. Nicholas, Madlyn Smith, G. W. "Basil Vernoy Maupin Died April 6, 1977 was born Jan 25, 1909. I do remember my grandfather especially his Pipe. He was a hard worker as well as my Dad. Dad stayed on the farm until spring 1978 then had to sell. My grandmother wanted money to move off the farm and in to town and my Father had to sell because where our trailer was was on my grandfather's land and it's where the water, electric had all been run. My Aunt Linda and her husband Dorman lived next to us and She moved into town after grandpa died too. She had divorced Dorman I believe in 1976. We moved to Fayette. My mother still lives in the trailer. They raised pigs mostly some cows, hay, corn soybeans. Dad went to work for the Glagow coop until he became diabled in 1996 or 97 I believe.
