Project News and Information
Additional DNA Testing Results Page We have recently opened a public site on which the results of yDNA testing might be viewed to the full extent of 67 markers at "The Reynolds DNA-Genealogy Project" at https://www.familytreedna.com/public/Reynolds%20Surname%20Y-DNA%20Study. (Copy and paste this web address in your local browser to view this site.) These results are grouped into matching results and identified by the name of the oldest known ancestor of each line. Within each grouping of matching results, respective kit numbers are associated with the name and dates of the participants’ reported eldest known ancestor. Test results on participants who have not yet found a match are also shown in these tabulated results.
Revision and Upgrade of the Reynolds DNA Project Web Page We have recently entered two upgrades to our web site. One of these upgrades contains new files in it which cause a conflict within the software. The effect of this conflict is that not all of the administrative screens (open to those with User Accounts) show the same background color. We are working to resolve this issue. Following reslution of this issue, we plan to try enabling some of the capabilities added by the upgrades. Presently, you might find some broken links on the site. Be assured that we are in the process of restoring those links and modifying or amending other areas on the site. This activity will not hinder your use of the site to view information on those lineages that have been entered on the site or access to tabulated DNA results. Changes to the web site will be on-going for a period, but the site will remain fully operational while those entries are made.
We are always
interested in in any feedback that anyone may have regarding the format. Please let us know if this
works or if you have an idea on how to improve it by contacting Gary W. Reynolds
or J. Hull, J. Mysinger, S. Phaneuf, J. Wilson. And again, if you are able, please consider donating to the fund.
Current Statistics:
Date of Last Update: 31 Aug 2009
Number of Participants: 105
Number of Unique Families: 25
Number of Matched Groups: 17
Number of Kits Not Yet Returned: 6
Legend:
In the table, there are a number of features. First, click on any of the
underlined ancestor or group names to access their pedigree information. Clicking on the underlined kit number
will allow you to email the owner of that kit! If there is a "Y" in the column entitled "Web",
it means that this participant has a website and you can access it by clicking on the "Y". The DYS numbers in
red are considered fast mutating markers. Finally, Haplogroups that have been confimed by SNP testing are in
bold green text.
Matched Group Results:
This first page of
information details the results for all of the projects matched groups. All of these groups have been
identified by careful analysis of all available data including, number of markers tested, number of
mismatches, which markers were mismatched and existing genealogies. Except in rare occasions, once a
matched group is identified, they are assigned a permanent group number and are referred to in the
future by that number.
Undetermined common Reynolds ancestor. Member #32270 and #82916 share a 4 point distance between each other on the 37M test. This means they are probably related. Since several generations have passed, it is likely that the two lines are related through other family members. The theory is that each line has passed along a mutation and one person would have experienced at least 2 mutations. To confirm that an in-betweener could exists, additional individuals must be found and tested. It is highly probable that their DNA would fall in-between the two members who are 4 points apart, which would establish a firmer relatedness within this family cluster or haplotype.
Member #82430 and #32270 share a 2 point distance, which means they are probably related; but because of mutations, it again means more time (720 years) exists between them for sharing an MRCA. Member #82430 and #82916 have a 25/25 match and likely share a MRCA about 180 years ago. Likewise, both share a 24/25 match with Member #61537 with a 1 point distance, which equates to be about 450 years. Documented paper genealogy can confirm or reaffirm the DNA test results.
Due to the lack of three 25/25 matches, the modal haplotype for the founder cannot be predicted.
